AT&S chooses Malaysia for its first production site in Southeast Asia

AT&S (Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik Aktiengesellschaft), the Austria-headquartered global manufacturing leader of high-end printed circuit boards (PCB) and integrated circuit (IC) substrates, has chosen Malaysia as its first production plant in Southeast Asia. Mr. Andreas Gerstenmayer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AT&S met with YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, on 9 June 2021 during a video conference to convey the official announcement.

AT&S new campus in Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah, to produce high-end PCBs and IC substrates involves a proposed total investment of RM8.5 billion (€1.7 billion) and will create 5,000 high-tech and high impact jobs. The construction of the facility is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2021 with commercial operations targeted to come on stream in 2024. It will be located on a 56.1 acres of land at Industrial Zone Phase 4.

In the morning of 22 June 2021, a delegation from AT&S Austria led by Mr Ingolf Schroeder (Chief Operation Officer AT&S) accompanied by H.E. Dr. Micheal Postl (Austrian Ambassador to Malaysia), Mr Markus Sterba (Director Executive Investment Project  AT&S), Mr Vittorio Villari (Director Strategy and Transformation  AT&S) and Mr Reinhart Zimmermann (Commercial Counsellor, Austrian Embassy) made a courtesy visit to YAB Tuan Haji Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor, Chief Minister of Kedah.

The courtesy visit was also attended by YB Dato’ Wira Dr. Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail (Kedah State EXCO (Industry & Investment)), YB Dato’ Paduka Ammar Dato’ Sheikh Mahmood Naim (Kedah State Secretary), Tuan Haji Mohd Sahil Zabidi (Group Chief Executive Officer,  Kulim Technology Park Corporation Sdn Bhd), Dato’ Norizan Khazali (Deputy Kedah State Secretary (Development)), Tuan Haji Muhamad Sobri Osman, (Chief Executive Officer MBI Incorporated) and Pn Nurullydia  Ahmad, (Deputy Director, Foreign Investment, MIDA).

The AT&S delegation proceeded to Kulim Hi-Tech Park for an afternoon meeting with Kulim Technology Park Corporation Sdn Bhd (KTPC) & Majlis Perbandaran Kulim Kedah (MPKK).  The meeting was chaired by YB Dato’ Wira Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail, (Kedah State EXCO (Industry & Investment)).  Also in attendance Tuan Haji Mohd Sahil Zabidi (Group Chief Executive Officer KTPC), Dr. Nadzman Mustafa (President MPKK), representative from MIDA, Invest Kedah and the Senior Management of KTPC.
