Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd is set to provide industrial training for students of Malaysian Community Colleges as well as support the development and periodic review of its programmes and curricula under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the federal government.

In a press statement issued by Silterra, its chairman Jalaluddin Jarjis said the strategic partnership was to help facilitate in the planning and development of education and training programmes for these colleges to help upgrade its knowledge base.

He said the agreement was in line with the government’s call to ensure that the skills of students were relevant and practical to the demands of the job market.

“Silterra will continue to commit its resources in sharing its technical expertise with the Malaysian workforce, particularly those who are keen to build a career in the semiconductor wafer fabrication business,” he said.

He believes that there is a need to ‘bridge’ the theoretical aspects of technical and engineering knowledge taught in academia with the actual application and training in the industries.

To date, Silterra has collaborated with more than 20 universities and institutions of higher learning, providing training to over 1,000 engineers and technical specialists in related fields.
