Entegris makes R&D a priority Tuesday, November 14, 2006
Entegris Group President and CEO Gideon Argov
KULIM: Entegris Inc's priority for its Kulim facility is to expand its research and development (R&D) department and engage highly skilled manpower.

Group president and chief executive officer Gideon Argov told StarBiz the Kulim facility did not just manufacture protective packaging products for the semiconductor and other high-tech industries.

“It also does R&D, oversees the group's supply chain management and serves as a customer service centre.

“The bulk of R&D activities are carried out in the US and Japan,” he said after the launch of Entegris' 91,000 sq ft expanded facility in Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP).

With the expansion, Entegris' facility in KHTP is now close to 200,000 sq ft.

The expanded facility, which involved an investment of about RM222mil, is expected to go into full operation at end-2007.

Argov said staying ahead technologically and ensuring that the organisation had highly competent manpower were two of the company's key competitive strategies.

“This is why our future plans include further strengthening R&D facilities in KHTP, and recruiting fresh highly skilled manpower in R&D, logistics, and supply chain management.

“To stay competitive in the business, we also want to better collaborate with clients to develop products suitable to their needs,” he said.

Argov said the expansion of the KHTP plant was in line with Entegris' business growth strategies in the Asia Pacific, which generated 55% of the company's revenue.

Operating in KHTP since 1997, Entegris specialises in manufacturing a wide range of products for purifying, protecting and transporting critical materials used in processing and manufacturing in the semiconductor and other high-tech industries.
