Kulim Hitech Park Marked As National Wafer Fabrication Excellence Centre |

KULIM, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said that the Kulim High Tech Park (KHTP) would be made the national wafer fabrication excellence centre with information communication technology as its core.
With the stamping of KHTP as a MSC Malaysia Cyber Township today, it has become part of the platform in the efforts to attract more domestic and foreign investors into the sector, here, he said.
There are several MSC status companies involved in the wafer fabrication activities in KHTP including IC Design House and Photomasking.
In view of this, the State Exco on Industry and Technology and a special secretariat established at the State Economic Planning unit would be monitoring the industry's development in the cyber township, Mahdzir said.
He said this during the launch of MSC Malaysia Cyber Township @ KHTP by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi here, today.
He said while Putrajaya and Cyberjaya gave special focus to ICT, KHTP would focus on the area of high technology manufacturing and ICT based wafer fabrication.
In recognition of the importance of ICT, he said the state government was also aiming to beef up three areas in the development of the industry. They were, namely increasing the number of ICT savvy people in the state, producing young people capable of competing in the ICT field and building a well-informed society.
He said the agenda was also in line with the country's focus towards a knowledge based economy and higher productivity.
