Fuji Electric to reinvest RM250m at Kulim Hi-Tech Park
A rise in global demand for magnetic disks has resulted in a RM250 million reinvestment by Japan's Fuji Electric at its manufacturing facility in Malaysia.
The company, which has invested RM700 million in equipment and machinery at Fuji Electric Malaysia Sdn Bhd (FEM) in Kedah since 1999, is adding two more production lines to its existing three.
FEM, whose current production capacity of 3.5-inch aluminium hard disks stands at 1.5 million pieces, is looking to nearly doubling this figure to 2.8 million by April 2006 when the two new lines are scheduled for completion.
Managing Director K. Katarao also revealed that the company intended to increase its current headcount from the current 500 to 670 by next year when production is ramped up.
'The existing 8,000sq m of floor space being currently used will also be expanded to 10,500sq m by next year,' he added.
