15 Dec. 2009, Intel Launches USD230 million facility in Kulim Hi-Tech Park Tuesday, December 15, 2009
Intel today launched it Kulim Microprocessor and Chipset Operations (KMCO) facility capping yet another significant milestone for the company since it started its offshore operations in Malaysia in 1972.

Mr Steve Megli, its Vice President for Technology & Manufacturing and Assembly Test & Manufacturing, said that Intel’s KMCO has produced and exported millions of chipsets that support the Intel’s Nehalem 45 nanometer microarchitecture. For that, he praised Malaysian engineers for their innovativeness and commitment in producing these very advanced microprocessors and chipsets for the global market. The next plan is for Intel to launch the production of microprocessors and chipsets for the next-generation 32 nanometer processors and chipsets from KMCO. For the record, Intel has, thus far, invested more than RM3.7 billion in Malaysia.

Dato’ Mustapha Mohamad, the Minister in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), officially launched the facility and witnessed, among others, by Dato’ Ir. Haji Amiruddin Hamzah, the Kedah State Committee Chairman for Industry, Investment, Agriculture & Agro-based Industry, Biotechnology and Information.
