KULIM: Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) expects Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)-status companies to create about 3,500 more jobs by year-end.
MDeC vice-president Ng Wan Peng said the jobs would come from the shared services, business processing outsourcing, software solutions and animation sectors.
MSC-status companies have created about 3,500 jobs so far this year.
“About 20% of the jobs will come from the animation industry in the country. The industry is growing and we hope to train more human resources in this field,” she told a press conference yesterday after an MSC Malaysia industry briefing and dialogue, which was officiated by Kedah Science, Innovation, ICT and Entrepreneur Development chairman Abdullah Jusoh.
“In 2010, we are targeting about 10,000 jobs from the MSC-status companies. There are 2,236 such companies in the country, of which about 140 are involved in the animation industry.
“For the first quarter of 2009, MDeC awarded 75 new ICT companies with the MSC status, and about 10% of them were animation-content companies,” she said.
To fill the job vacancies, Ng said MDeC was working with private and public ICT centres in the country to train fresh graduates and retrenched workers.
“We have currently 45 training programmes that are being implemented via the training centres in the country. MDeC absorbs all the fees incurred by the trainees during the programmes, which are usually three-month courses.
