KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Trade between Malaysia and Germany increased to seven billion euros last year, said Germany's Ambassador to Malaysia, Herbert D. Jess, Tuesday.
He said the number of German companies in Malaysia have also gone up to about 400 companies, including big names like Siemens, Lurgi and Infineon.
'We see that huge investments are going into the electronic field such as Siemens which has been producing semi conductors since the 70s in Melaka,' he said during a press conference here Tuesday to announce the launch of the German Cultural Month Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
He said another electronic company, Infineon, had also invested Euro 1 biilion to produce wafers at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kedah.
Other German companies are also actively investing in Malaysia through joint-ventures and also in downstream activities such as Lurgi which is constructing a mega methanol plant in Labuan for Petronas, he said.
He said some German companies were also beginning to realise that Malaysia was an ideal location for their regional activities with its excellent infrastructures including ports, airports, roads and railway services.
Citing several examples, he said a big Germany logistics company has set up its warehouse in Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johor, while an automotive company has also set up its spare part regional distribution centre in the country.
